The Speaker of the Parliament and the Chairperson of the ruling People's National Congress, PNC, Abdul Raheem Abdullah, has denied a report that said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's influence within the party has diminished.
The report was published by the opposition-aligned "Adhadhu" news outlet, which said that the PNC Senate rejected a motion submitted by the President
The newspaper quoted some senior PNC members as saying that President Muizzu proposed at the party’s Senate meeting that the leadership be given full powers to conduct all arrangements for the upcoming party congress. Still, the Senate majority did not support his proposal.
However, Abdul Raheem denied the allegations and said President Muizzu had not instructed the Senate to decide on anything in particular. He added that such a report was based on lies.
He also said that the ruling party cannot be divided and that all party members stood with the President.
In addition to Abdul Raheem, several other members of the PNC leadership took to social media platforms to deny the reports of discord within the PNC.
