President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says there are no shortages of food and oil in the Maldives despite the conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking at his first press conference of 2026, the President said that even with the conflict in the region, the Maldives has secured food and oil for the near future.
The President further said that his government is communicating with Oman, the country's largest oil supplier, and that it had been assured that the supply would not be hindered by the conflict. The President added that the Maldives is currently storing oil supplies to its maximum storage capacity.
President Muizzu said that his government is in contact with the country's Arab allies and has assured that the Maldives stands in solidarity with them. He insisted that all sides must stop their military escalations and aggressions, including the US, Israel, and Iran.
When pressed about his administration's reluctance to condemn the apparent assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the President said that any death is a tragedy in such a conflict and that he would have discussions with his cabinet about further action on the matter.
