Former President Mohamed Nasheed says the state does not have to interfere in the personal lives of young muslim women in the name of preserving their adornment.

This comes following the revision of the dress code for Civil Service employees, which states that women in government jobs must wear tops that reach below their thighs.

Nasheed said in a post on social media that the state should not interfere in the personal affairs of Muslims in the name of maintaining their adornment and integrity.

The women's wing of the main democratic party, MDP, had also issued a statement on the matter, stating that the changes in the dress code of civil service employees have been made to restrict the individual freedom of female employees working in certain sectors.

The Civil Servants Dress Code has been amended, and two articles have been added. One provision added details to the dress code for male employees.
