The Juvenile Court has found the 17-year-old boy accused of killing a 13-year-old boy guilty of the charges filed against him.
In the case that shook the nation, the body of the 13-year-old victim was found in Hulhumale' Phase 2, stuffed in a suitcase. Police quickly arrested two suspects involved in the case, and one of the suspects was a 17-year-old boy.
The Prosecutor General's Office said that the Juvenile Court had found the juvenile defendant guilty of the charges filed against him in the hearing held on the 23rd of this month.
It said that the charges of intentional homicide, unauthorized detention, and abuse of corpse have all been proven.
The verdict ordered him to serve 16 years, 10 months, and seven days in a juvenile correctional facility as a punishment for intentional homicide.
The court ordered him to fast for two consecutive months as expiation after deducting the four years, six months, and two days he spent in custody before sentencing.
He was also ordered to be detained in a juvenile detention center for 11 months and nine days as a punishment for unauthorized detention.
The defendant was also ordered to remain in a juvenile detention center for 18 days as a punishment for the misuse of the deceased. In another development, the Supreme Court today ruled that he was wrongly transferred to house arrest.
