The Republic of Maldives has strongly condemned the Israeli Cabinet’s decision to approve the establishment of nineteen new settlements in the Occupied West Bank, describing the move as a serious violation of international law.
In a statement, the Maldives reaffirmed that all Israeli settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory are illegal and contravene United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which calls for an end to such practices.
The government warned that unilateral actions of this nature undermine efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, fuel further violence, and threaten the viability of the two-State solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
The Maldives urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral obligations, ensure accountability, and take effective measures to compel Israel to halt all settlement activities and other illegal actions against the Palestinian people.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, the Republic of Maldives reiterated its unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, and its firm commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.
