Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has concluded his official visit to Doha, Qatar, where he attended the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2).

During the Summit, the Vice President delivered a plenary statement, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to advancing global social progress through inclusivity, equity, and resilience. In his address, he highlighted the Maldives’ efforts to strengthen healthcare, education, digital transformation, and climate resilience.

The Vice President also emphasised the Maldives’ efforts to convert debt into tools for building resilience, underscoring the need for reforming the global financial system to create fiscal space for investment in people.

He further outlined the Maldives’ holistic approach to social development, focusing on accessible housing, youth empowerment, women’s participation, disability inclusion, and universal healthcare and pensions.

The Vice President’s visit to Doha reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to global partnership and solidarity, and to working with the international community to build inclusive, equitable, and sustainable societies that leave no one behind.

The Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) was held in Doha, Qatar, from 4 to 6 November 2025, bringing together heads of state and government, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector to renew global commitments to social progress, poverty eradication, and social inclusion in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
