Former President Mohamed Nasheed says he predicts more protests will break out in other developing countries after the government of neighbouring Nepal was toppled following relentless civilian protests.

In a post on X, Nasheed said corruption, mismanagement, and excessive debt are destabilising government after government.

He further said that if developing countries can’t restructure their debts and bring good governance, the world will see more protests.

He added that the world must wake up to this or face more chaos.

In Nepal, fierce protests against corruption and nepotism spiralled into arson and violence on Tuesday. The prime minister resigned as politicians' homes were vandalised, government buildings torched, and parliament set ablaze. Twenty-nine people have died since Monday.
