Department of Judicial Administration says judicial employees are now allowed to wear the Niqab, a veil worn by some Muslim women that covers the face and sometimes the eyes.
The Department said in a circular that it had amended Article 129 of the Judicial Employees' Dress Code regulation(2011).
It said that with the amendment, employees working in the Judicial system can now wear the Niqab. However, the amendment states that if it is not clear who the employees are wearing such clothes in the workplace, the face of such an employee shall be shown to a relevant female employee of the court or agency.
The DGA stated that it had asked the courts and other judicial agencies to implement the new dress code regulation as it came into effect yesterday.
In addition, the DGA has noted that some judicial rules are being amended to bring them up to date.
