President Dr Mohamed Muizzu marked World Humanitarian Day today with a solemn message paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of humanitarian workers worldwide.

In his message, the President honoured the courage and memory of humanitarian personnel who have risked and, in many cases, tragically lost their lives in efforts to bring aid, healing, and hope to those in need.

The President noted that in recent years, humanitarian workers have faced some of the most perilous conditions in modern times, and expressed deep concern over the deliberate targeting, harassment, and killing of humanitarian personnel in different parts of the world.

He stressed that when humanitarians cannot operate safely, civilians in conflict zones are denied access to essential needs such as food, water, medicine, and protection.

President Dr Muizzu paid tribute to the dedication of humanitarian workers and volunteers worldwide, stating that their bravery and compassion embody the true meaning of solidarity and service. He made particular mention of the courageous humanitarian aid workers in Gaza, whose sacrifices he said reaffirm the power of humanity and the pursuit of dignity, peace, and justice.

The President further underscored the importance of upholding international humanitarian law and the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence. He urged the international community to act decisively to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers and to support their mission.
