Shafi Burfat, Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has attributed the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan to Pakistan’s sustained support for terrorism. In a strongly worded statement, Burfat held the Pakistani military responsible for decades of extremist violence targeting India, particularly in Kashmir.
"The core reason for the recurring conflict between Pakistan and India is Islamabad’s persistent sponsorship of terrorism. Innocent Indian civilians have repeatedly suffered at the hands of extremist jihadist groups, which are trained, armed, and sheltered by the Pakistani military," Burfat said.
He referred to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which Pakistani-backed militants killed 26 unarmed civilians, as the latest example in a long history of cross-border terrorism. “These attacks are not new,” Burfat added. “Since as early as 1948, Pakistan-backed militants have attacked Kashmir, committing grave atrocities, including violence against women.”
Burfat further stated that the Punjabi-dominated Pakistani army is to blame not only for the conflict with India but also for the suppression of various ethnic groups within Pakistan, including Sindhis, Baloch, Pashtuns, and Saraikis. “This war, when viewed through a factual lens, is a consequence of the Pakistani military’s extremism and bloodshed,” he said.
He praised India’s ongoing Operation Sindoor, which is aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, noting that it is being led by two female Indian officers—Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. Burfat said the Sindhi people and other marginalised communities see this conflict as a response to Pakistan’s repeated acts of aggression against India.
The JSMM chairman also accused Pakistan’s intelligence agencies of staging drone attacks in Sindh, including in Karachi, to falsely blame India and stir anti-India sentiment among the Sindhi population. “These staged attacks are part of a propaganda campaign aimed at sowing division and justifying Pakistan’s military actions,” he alleged.
“We Sindhis recognise the Pakistani army for what it is—a fanatical, anti-human force that protects terrorists. We stand with India morally and politically, and believe India is right in defending itself,” Burfat asserted.
Calling on the international community, he said, “Civilised nations around the world must support India in its fight against terrorism and condemn the criminal actions of Pakistan’s military establishment.”
Burfat concluded by describing Pakistan as an "artificial state founded on a flawed two-nation ideology", and claimed that lasting peace in the region and beyond can only be achieved if suppressed nations like Sindhudesh are granted their freedom. “Until Pakistan is dismantled, the roots of jihadist extremism will continue to endanger global peace,” he warned.
