In a sharp and measured response to Pakistan’s attempted strikes on Indian military installations, the Indian Armed Forces neutralised an air defence system in Lahore on Thursday, a day after conducting Operation Sindoor, which destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to an official statement, Pakistan launched drones and missiles on the night of May 7–8, targeting multiple military locations across Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal (Bikaner), Phalodi, Uttarlai (Barmer), and Bhuj.
The Indian Armed Forces confirmed that all attempted strikes were intercepted and neutralised by the Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris recovered from multiple sites serves as evidence of the failed Pakistani assault.
The military emphasized that India's initial response under Operation Sindoor had been "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," deliberately avoiding Pakistani military establishments. However, it reiterated that any attack on Indian military targets will be met with a proportionate response.
“In response to Pakistan’s actions, this morning the Indian Armed Forces targeted air defence radars and systems at several locations in Pakistan. It is reliably confirmed that an air defence system in Lahore has been neutralised,” the statement said.
Additionally, India reported that Pakistan has intensified unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy artillery in regions including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tragically, 16 civilians, including three women and five children, have been killed due to the cross-border shelling. India responded with targeted fire to suppress further artillery attacks from the Pakistani side.
Concluding the statement, the Indian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, stressing that this stance is contingent on similar restraint from the Pakistani military.
