Following India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to target multiple military installations across Northern and Western India on the night of May 7–8, including three Air Force bases in Rajasthan—Nal in Bikaner, Phalodi, and Uttarlai in Barmer, according to the Indian government.

The Ministry of Defence stated that the drones and missiles launched by Pakistan were successfully intercepted by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems, with debris now being recovered from several locations.

In response to the attempted strikes, the Rajasthan government has intensified security and emergency preparedness measures. The state, already on high alert since the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, is implementing the following steps:

  • Temporary closure of schools in sensitive areas
  • Mock drills and blackout exercises statewide
  • Flight cancellations and evacuation planning
  • Reinforcement of medical and emergency services
  • Social media monitoring to curb misinformation
  • Leave cancellations for police and emergency personnel

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, after returning from a BJP training session in Gujarat, convened an emergency meeting with top officials including DGP U R Sahoo and Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant. Sharma directed law enforcement to act against those attempting to incite communal tensions and emphasized the need for vigilant monitoring of social media platforms.

Reviewing the state’s internal security and disaster response, Sharma instructed officials to ensure the availability of essential supplies, medical personnel, electricity, water, and critical services at all times. Police personnel have been asked to remain stationed at district headquarters, and security has been tightened around sensitive installations.

Chief Secretary Pant confirmed that mock drills were conducted across the state to simulate air raid warnings and rescue operations. According to SDRF Commandant Rajendra Singh Sisodia, 41 SDRF teams, in collaboration with local administration, carried out preparedness exercises in Jaipur, and border and high-risk districts including Sri Ganganagar, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Alwar, and others.

The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining readiness and ensuring public safety amid heightened tensions with Pakistan. (Reported by: IndianExpress)
