Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday lauded the precision and professionalism of the Indian armed forces during Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), warning that any attempt to test India’s patience would result in “quality action.”

Speaking at the National Quality Conclave, hosted by the Department of Defence Production and the Quality Assurance Organisation, Singh reaffirmed India's commitment to peace and dialogue. “India has always acted as a responsible nation and shown great restraint. We prefer resolving issues through discussion,” he said.

However, he cautioned that this should not be mistaken for weakness. “If anyone tries to exploit our patience, they should be ready to face a response like yesterday’s,” Singh stated, referring to the precision strikes carried out in retaliation for the April 22 killing of 26 civilians by terrorists in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

Highlighting the role of quality defence equipment in the success of the operation, Singh said: “The exemplary execution of Operation Sindoor—eliminating nine terror camps with minimal collateral damage and without harming any innocent civilians—demonstrates the capability of our highly trained armed forces equipped with top-grade weaponry.”

He emphasized the growing strength of India’s defence manufacturing sector, saying the country is well-prepared for similar measured responses in the future. “This expanding defence industrial base is providing unprecedented strength to India’s security apparatus,” Singh noted.

Singh credited the Narendra Modi government’s reforms in defence production since 2014, including the corporatisation of ordnance factories, for laying the foundation for a self-reliant and globally trusted defence industry.

His remarks coincided with reports that India had neutralised an air defence system in Lahore, following a series of drone and missile attacks from Pakistan targeting multiple Indian military installations in the north and west—including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, and Chandigarh.

According to a Press Information Bureau statement, the attempted attacks during the night of May 7–8 were intercepted and neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.

In parallel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with secretaries from various government departments, stressing the need for seamless inter-ministerial coordination and close cooperation with state and local authorities. (Reported by: IndianExpress)
