Former President Mohamed Nasheed says a full-blown war has started between South Asian powerhouses India and Pakistan and that the Maldives must prepare for its impact.
This comes after both countries exchanged tit-for-tat measures against each other after a devastating militant attack in Indian administered Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists and injured many more.
In a post on X, the former President and former Speaker of the Parliament, Nasheed, said that a full-blown war between India and Pakistan has begun, with significant consequences for South Asia, the Indian Ocean, and the Maldives.
He went on to say that the Maldives must prepare for the potential impact on its security, safety, and economy.
After the vicious attacks in Phalgam, India announced a raft of diplomatic measures against Islamabad, including shutting the Attari-Wagah border between the two countries immediately.
India also cancelled visa services to Pakistani nationals "with immediate effect".
In turn, Pakistan suspended all visas issued to Indian nationals under an exemption scheme with immediate effect, as well as expelling some of its neighbours' diplomats and closing its airspace to Indian flights.
