The Parliament has approved an amendment to the Immigration Act, which prohibits Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives.
MP for Galolhu South Constituency Meekail Ahmed Naseem proposed an amendment to the Immigration Act last May as a way to protest against the Israeli state's continuous genocide in the Occupied Palestinian territories.
The amendment was accepted by the Parliament in June and forwarded to the Security Services Committee, where its work has been stagnant, much to the ire of the public.
However, yesterday, the Committee passed the bill after a major revision was made to the document. The new revision barred entry of individuals using Israeli passports to enter the Maldives until the Jewish state ceased its genocidal military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The revision mirrored counsel from Maldives Immigration, which stated that since the holders of passports of more than one country cannot be verified and the Immigration Department will consider the passport presented by the foreigners when allowing them to enter the country, the Immigration Department proposed to ban entry only on Israeli passports.
The bill was put to a vote at today's parliament session and all 83 MPs who took part voted in favour of the bill.
