Local police have conducted a virtual autopsy of Zakiyya Moosa, who was found dead in her house in Noonu Atoll Holhudhoo last year.
The 54-year-old was found dead in her home last September with several stab wounds and her murder weapon nearby.
The Press has come to know that a team from the Police traveled to India to conduct the virtual autopsy. Though the Police did not confirm this update, they did say that they were conducting a full investigation into the case.
A Virtual Autopsy employs imaging methods that are also used in clinical medicine, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), etc., for autopsy and to find the cause of the death.
Progress has been slow in the investigation into the death of the islander, which has prompted protests on the island. The protesters have accused the police of being complacent in the investigation. This, in turn, prompted the National Integrity Commission to launch an investigation into police negligence in the investigation.
No arrests have been made in the case, with Police at one time saying that they did not suspect that the woman was murdered.
