Authorities in the Maldives have seized drugs worth MVR 6.7 million, which were being smuggled into the country via sea.
Customs said that the drugs were seized after they searched a shipment that arrived in the country on the 12th of this month. Customs noted that the seized drugs weighed around 3.534 kg.
The seized drugs include;
- Methamphetamine (2138g)
- Ketamine (1086g)
- Heroin (310g)
Customs said they have now handed over the seized drugs to the Police.
Drug smuggling cases have been on the rise with several high profile drug busts in the past year.
A total of 298 drug cases have been reported to the police so far this year, according to police statistics.
