Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah says he is sitting in the seat of the Speaker freely and without any influence from anyone.

He said this in Parliament after comments made by the MP for Galholhu South Constituency Meekail Ahmed Naseem. The Speaker repeatedly stopped the MP from speaking about the amendment to the Courts Act which would downsize the Supreme Court bench.

This prompted the MP to express pity for the Speaker insinuating that the Speaker had a figurative gun to his head.

However, the Speaker interrupted the MP mid-sentence and responded to the comments.

honorable member does not know my health or living conditions or any other circumstances, so there will be no opportunity to say anything about it

The Speaker said he was sitting in his seat freely and that he was appointed to the seat by the honorable members of the parliament. He added that he had no obstacles in front of him.

He warned MP Meekail not use his mic to mislead the public.
