The Maldivian Parliament has rejected MDP's resolution on the stalled Israel passport ban bill which has been at the committee stage for months.

MP for Galolhu North Constituency Ahmed Ibrahim submitted the resolution to the parliament today. Last month, MP Ibrahim had attempted to submit an emergency motion on the same subject but was not even accepted by the parliament.

Speaking today, MP Ibrahim said the government is doing nothing except issue statements against Israel's continuous inhumane aggression against Palestine.

He further said the cabinet held a meeting and decided to ban the Israeli passport after the MP for Galolhu South Constituency Meekail Naseem had proposed an amendment to the Immigration Act which achieved the same result. He added that the government has not taken any action to implement the cabinet's decision on the ban.

He also pointed out that the government-majority parliament was wrapping up other legislative work.

After debating the resolution, the Speaker asked whether the resolution should be adopted. Out of the members present, 15 members voted in favor while 63 members voted against the resolution. One member abstained from voting.
