Former Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has questioned why this government has been unable to manage its revenues despite a higher number of tourist arrivals than the previous administration.

Speaking on MDP's 'Havaru Beru Panel Discussion' Mariya aimed heavy criticism at this administration last night.

She said the government has been unable to steady the country's economy because of its extravagant expenses and waste.

Mariya said that the former government changed the Tourism Tax from 8 to 16 percent in the last year of its tenure and that the current administration benefited the most from this change.

She noted that this change would have increased government revenues and despite this, this administration has been unable to manage its finances.

The former Minister said that this administration is merging and dissolving some government-owned companies and this too can be costly.

She also said that no projects are currently underway anywhere in the country. She said the MDP government has continued to carry out projects even during the difficult times
