Legendary local footballer Ali Ashfaq has been appointed to a high-ranking position at the official residence of the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdullah.

The Communications Director at the Parliament, Hassan Ziyau, confirmed to the Press that Ashfaq has been appointed as the Director General of the Speaker's Official residence, Muraidhoo Ge.

Ziyau said that the appointment was made last July.

The country's most prolific goal scorer is a close friend of the son of the Speaker Ibrahim Faisal who is also the Tourism Minister.

Ashfaq has played for several local football clubs and has had stints in both the Malaysian league and the football league in Brunei.

The Director General of Muraidhoo Ge would be responsible for administrative operations, protocol and liaisoning with other government and state agencies.
