Speaker of the Parliament MP Abdul Raheem Abdullah says sustainability is at the core of the Maldives' identity, and resilience is essential to its way of life.

He said this in his remarks at the 2024 Interregional Seminar on the Achievement of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries in Beijing, China.

Speaking on the theme of "Aligning Development Strategies for Inclusive Global Economic Growth," Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla underscored the importance of recognizing each nation’s unique resources and challenges in the global economy. He highlighted the specific hurdles and opportunities faced by small island nations like the Maldives amid economic globalization.

In his remarks, the Speaker emphasized the critical connection between the Maldives' economic development strategies, its democratic values, and sustainability.

Drawing from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's address at the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Speaker Abdul Raheem reiterated that sustainability is at the core of the Maldives' identity, and resilience is essential to its way of life.

He further stressed that inclusive globalization requires a commitment to sustainability and international collaboration. Speaker Abdul Raheem reaffirmed the Maldives' dedication to partnerships with China and other nations in pursuit of a prosperous and sustainable future.

The 2024 Interregional Seminar on SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries is being held from August 18 to 23 in Beijing.

Speaker Abdul Raheem is joined on this official trip by MPs Ibrahim Shujau (Baarashu Constituency), Mohamed Ismail (Villimale Constituency), Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo Constituency), and Secretary General of the People’s Majlis, Fathimath Niusha.
