The MP for Meedhoo Constituency Ahmed Siyam has decided to provide medical treatments to the whole population of Baa Atoll Kamadhoo free of charge.
The island has a population of 564 people.
In an announcement by the island council, it said that the decision was followed by discussions between the Council and the MP.
The Council said that medical assistance would be provided to residents of Kamadhoo in the Maldives as well as from abroad. It further said that the assistance would be provided under a set of guidelines.
It also said that those who want to apply for assistance must fill out an application form and submit it to the Council with the required documents. It added that the form would now be available from the Council.
MP Siyam is one of the longest-serving parliamentarians in the country as this is his 5th term in Parliament. He is also an influential resort owner.
