A weather report from International broadcaster Al Jazeera has predicted that a month's worth of rain will fall in the Capital Male' in the next 72 hours.

In the forecast reported today, the Doha-based broadcaster predicted that the capital would experience rough bouts of rainfall equivalent to a month's worth of rain.

The national weather agency, Maldives Meteorological Services predicted last week that the Southwest monsoon is expected to become active this week.

It also predicted widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40 to 45 miles per hour are expected to continue for the next 5 days.

The Met Office also said that seas are expected to be rough during this time.

The weather agency has been issuing alerts for bad weather over most of the country. In its latest post, the Met Office issued a yellow alert for the northern atolls.

The alert said that torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 50 mph and rough seas are expected in the region.
