Maldives Airports Company Limited MACL has signed a memorandum of understanding MoU with Road Development Corporation RDC for the road construction works pending in Velanaa International Airport VIA.
The signing ceremony was held yesterday. The CEO and Managing Director of MACL, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, signed the agreement on behalf of the company. In contrast, the Managing Director of RDC, Brigadier General Retired Ali Zuhair, signed on behalf of the Corporation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shareef noted that this was the first time MACL assigned a local company to carry out such work at the Velaana International Airport.
He said that MACL has an internal team dedicated to road construction and repair, but emergency work must be done after the team stops its routine work.
Shareef said that he believed the road construction and other works would be done efficiently and quickly by entrusting the job to a specialized company like RDC.
At the ceremony, RDC MD Zuhair said such work could be entrusted to local companies to do better or better than foreign companies.
Under the MOU, RDC will construct, repair, and resurface the land side of the airport while maintaining the roads regularly, fixing potholes, repairing buildings, and laying line markings on the streets.
