President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he has decided not to make top political appointments starting now unless under special circumstances.
He said this during his first Presidential Address to the parliament since taking over as the President of the country in November of last year.
In his address, President Muizzu indicated that the country is facing both economic and fiscal challenges. He outlined several measures the government is planning to take to minimize the risks to economic growth and fiscal stability.
President Muizzu emphasized that the government aims to stabilize the economy while bringing being able to sustainably maintain its deficit and establish and implement a self-reform fiscal policy.
President Muizzu said in this regard, he had decided not to make any more political appointments to the government unless under special circumstances. He said that this was part of the measures being taken to minimize the costs of the government.
The government's decision to make a staggering number of political appointments has been heavily criticized by its opposition and the media.
While the government started with 22 cabinet Ministers, it has since appointed countless Deputy Ministers and State Ministers to various Ministeries.
