HDC says it is reinstating its corporate identity as Housing Development Corporation HDC months after it was rebranded as 'Urbanco'.
In a post on 'X', HDC said that it was reverting to its original name by unveiling the logo and brand name to reflect its legal name.
HDC said that it remains steadfast in its commitment to developing safer, smarter, and sustainable cities for the whole community.
The Corporation rebranded itself as 'Urbanco' last year on the occasion of its 22nd anniversary under the government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The rebranding included a new logo for the company as well as new uniforms for its staff with the logo printed on them. Back then, it was said that the company planned to expand its business portfolio and venture into new business fronts.
HDC was established in 2001 by the President’s Office to address the Malé housing crisis that led to the initiation of the Hulhumalé development project . In 2005, it became Hulhumale Development Corporation to oversee the development of the island, and in 2009 it was diversified as Housing Development Corporation to to carry out housing projects around the whole country.
Over the years, HDC remained in charge of developing Hulhumale' as the artificially constructed island as more people began to settle on Hulhumale' and the island became urbanized.
However, the new government wants HDC to expand its vision from just developing Hulhumale' and hence mandated that the Corporation to transfer the municipal services of Hulhumale' to Male' City Council earlier this year.
