Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu says changes must be brought to the current academic calendar and that the Ministry will be announcing these changes late this week.
While local schools reopened for the second term today, Minister Shafeeu said that as the President has decided to close government offices during the last 10 days of Ramadan, there would be changes to the current calendar year.
The Minister said that the Ministry held discussions with all the Principals of the schools in the country about the changes to the calendar.
Minister Shafeeu mentioned that the schools reopened for the new term fully prepared and to achieve the milestones of the curriculum.
Minister Shafeeu said that the Ministry has arranged for new teachers in schools where teachers left their posts and the new teachers would join the academic force shortly.
He also said that the Ministry is working to create a generation of nation-loving students that the schools would be implementing policies based on these principles and that the Ministry would be working with all the necessary agencies.
The confirmation of the change to the Academic Calendar comes amid speculation that the Ministry is looking to shorten this academic year to facilitate starting the academic year from the beginning of the calendar year starting 2025.
