The Prosecutor General's Office has expressed concern about the delayed trials at the Criminal Court after the court was damaged in the recent rain and flooding in the capital Male'.

Several buildings in Male' reported water damage and the Criminal Court said rainwater from leaks on its ceiling damaged its internal server and that the Court lost its internet connection. The Court had said that it had also faced electricity outages due to the rain damages in the building.

While the Court has been forced to cancel hearings for several trials, the Prosecutor General's Office said today that such delays are highly concerning.

The Prosecutor General's Office said that it is the responsibility of the government and relevant agencies to make sure that the Court can continue its proceedings and make sure that it has all the necessary resources available for its hearings.

It also highlighted that island magistrate courts required the Criminal Court's intervention in their cases once a week and that the Prosecutor General's Office wished that the cases at the lower courts continue as per schedule without delay during the rest of the week.
