President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the Ministries created under Article 116(h) to the Parliament for approval.

The President's Office said that the President is seeking Parliamentary approval for the Ministries he has created as well as the mandates for the ministries.

The government of President Muizzu has created 4 new ministries and one agency. The Ministries include the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, and the Ministry of Cities, Local Governance, and Public Works.

The new agency created is the Office of Civil Rights.

This comes after the parliament delayed approving the President's cabinet today after putting the matter on its agenda for the day.

At the start of the session, MP for Thulhaadhoo Constituency Hisan Husain took a point of order and said that the report on Ministers' approval compiled by the Government Oversight Committee was included in the session's agenda in violation of Article 200 of the Parliament standing order and that the report itself does not meet with the criteria listed in the Article.

She pointed out that the Constitution clearly states that the President must submit the mandates of the Ministries in the government for parliamentary approval and while it has been 30 days for the new government, the Parliament is yet to receive the mandate for the new ministries.

The MP argued that without deliberating on the mandates of the Ministries, it is unclear what capabilities the Ministers should have or not to fulfill what responsibilities.

After hearing the arguments on MP Hisan's point of order, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam announced that the Parliament would not move forward with the Committee report and sent it back for revision as per Article 200 of the Parliament Standing Order.
