The government has announced that routine medical check-up services would be available through the Aasandha Scheme from government hospitals starting from January 1, 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Speaking at the Press Conference held at the President's Office after the Cabinet meeting today, Under Secretary for Public Policy Mohamed Firuzul said that the government is working to compile packages for the medical check-ups.
He said that the hospitals would be providing the details of the packages in the coming days. Firuzul said that an estimated MVR 300 million and MVR 600 million would be spent on giving these services. He said future investment
Firuzul also said that IVF treatment would be covered through Aasandha starting today. He said that this includes treatment for PCOS as well as endometritis.
He said that this includes diagnosis as well as issuing prescriptions under Aasandha. He further said that the government was working to establish IVF services at the state hospital Indira Gandi Memorial Hospital in a year.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced earlier this month his decision to include routine medical check-ups and IVF services free of charge under the government's universal healthcare insurance scheme, Aasandha.
He announced the inclusion of medical check-ups as a service under the Aasandha Scheme and the initiation of public awareness campaigns about its benefits. He elaborated that the Government would offer customized packages to cater to the needs of specific age groups.
The President further indicated that various disease profiling services would be made available bi-annually under the Aasandha Scheme, subject to the doctor's recommendation. President Dr Muizzu stated that these measures would significantly mitigate the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, reduce the risk of life-threatening conditions, and foster a healthier lifestyle among the people.
