Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem says his office will press more than 225 charges against Hassan Mamdhooh (Manday) who is accused of fraud and other criminal offenses in the illegal sale of apartments from the K-Park Residence, a condominium still under construction in Hulhumale'.
Speaking at a news briefing today, Shameem said that his office is working to send the charge sheet to the Criminal Court by next week, and for now, they have just collected victim statements.
Shameem said that based on these statements alone his office is looking to charge Manday with over 225 offenses.
The Prosecutor General said that the K-Park apartments have been sold more than once and that 104 apartments have been sold to 41 customers.
He said the investigation has unveiled these transactions and that statements have only been taken from some of those who have been scammed.
Shameem said that the charges against Manday include money laundering, the use of an illegal document, as well as fraud, and evading taxes. He said that Manday would be charged for each of the victims individually and that this is how it should be made.
The PG said that Police have confiscated an FW Penthouse believed to have been purchased from laundered money and documents show that the apartment was bought with money made from selling two apartments to four sellers.
Shameem said that the cost of the apartment itself is MVR 7.8 million and that the cost of the goods inside the apartment racks up to MVR 7 million.
He said that this includes 200 unopened perfumes, MVR 90,000 worth of luxury handbags, and jewelry worth an amount between USD 10,000 and 25,000.
