MP for South Galolhu Meekail Ahmed Naseem has urged fellow MDP MPs and MPs from other parties not to give approval to the Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed.
The MP's passionate call came after the Minister held his first news conference yesterday in which he cast doubts over the flats and land plots issued by the former government of MDP and its allies.
Speaking at the Parliament today, MP Meekail said that the Minister's first news conference proved that this government would snatch away the housing opportunities given to the residents of Male'.
He said that Gulheefalhu, Giraavaru falhu, Uthuru thila falhu and Hullhumale have been deemed suitable for housing and that this government plans to gather the residents of Male' to Fushi Dhigaru falhu across the Vaadhoo sea. He said that this should not be allowed to happen while MDP holds the majority of the parliament and that the Speaker and MDP MPs should not allow this to happen.
MP Meekail then implored the leadership of MDP, MDP PG, and fellow MPs not to issue a three-line whip to approve the current Housing Minister.
He said that he would not give his vote to approve Minister Haidar and that the South Galolhu Constituency would not back a Housing Minister who arrived with the intention of taking back the housing from Male' residents. MP Meekail then went on to urge his fellow MPD MP and MPs from other parties not to give approval to Housing Minister Haidar.
In his first press conference, Minister Haidar faced a barrage of questions from the local media mainly after he said that this government would not respect housing decisions taken by the former government after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was elected as President.
The Minister failed to give satisfactory answer to the questions as this decision could potentially take away housing given to thousands of Male' residents under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
