Authorities in the Maldives say the dead body found near Dhoonidhoo today is that of the individual who jumped into the sea near Rasfannu beach yesterday.

Police had said earlier that a dead body was discovered in the water between Dhoonidhoo and Fonadhoo. Police said just now that the body belonged to a 41-year-old local man and that the man had jumped into the sea near Rasfannu beach last night.

MNDF said that they deployed search and rescue teams last night after they received a report of the jumper around 19:45 p.m. last night and that they had used MNDF divers to search the waters for the missing man.

MNDF also confirmed that the body found off Dhoonidhoo may be that of the man who jumped into the sea and MNDF was also on the scene alongside the Police.

They also said that they helped the police retrieve the body and that the deceased had been brought to Male'.

It is not clear why the man jumped into the sea near Rasfannu and Police said they were now investigating the matter.
