MP for Kudahuvadhoo Constituency Ahmed Amir has voiced concerns about the lack of any development in the hospital to be built in Kudahuvadhoo saying that only a 3-D design was shown for the project.

He voiced concerns during the debate held on the resolution submitted by the MP for Maavashu Constituency calling on the government to expedite the causeway project that connects Laamu Hithadhoo and Kunhendhoo.

MP Amir said that the projects included in the state budget are assigned to the relevant government organization and that there is no standard to prioritize the work in the islands that require the services the most.

He said that political gain is always in the front and that while the government's tenure is almost up, projects included in the budget have yet to be completed.

MP Amir said money projects were included in the state budget for the Kudahuvadhoo Constituency but that his constituents have voiced concern that some of the projects are yet to take off including the new harbor in Kudahuvadhoo.

He further noted that when the Maaeboodhoo reclamation project had kicked off, the scope of the project was to dredge 30 hectares of the lagoon but has since been changed to 15 hectares and is yet to be completed. MP Amir also said that the project to build an Atoll hospital in Kudahuvadhoo was also included in the budget after many attempts and that the government had only managed to show a 3-D design of the project.

The MP further highlighted that in the last Presidential Election, the loudest rhetoric was that developmental changes would be brought regardless of the size of the islands but he cannot see how the bigger islands have been denied developmental opportunities.
