Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on the country to ensure everyone has access to mental healthcare in the Maldives.

He said this in a social media post on the occasion of World Mental Health Day being celebrated today.

President Solih said that as we celebrate World Mental Health Day let us remember that a little kindness can make a world of difference for someone in need.

The President said that everyone, everywhere deserves understanding, empathy, and resources.

He urged the country to ensure that everyone has access to mental healthcare.

Under his administration, President Solih has done much to bolster the Mental Healthcare sector in the country. This includes forming a designated Mental Health Department under the Health Ministry back in December of 2022.

The new department was established under the discretion vested in the President by Section 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

According to a directive by the President’s Office, the number 489 should be used in all correspondence addressed to the new authority as per the numbering system for state agencies.
