President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says instead of focusing on getting a lofty post within MDP, he is working to make the party a formidable opposition party.
Speaking at the first news conference held at his office after the Presidential election, President Solih said that in order to further strengthen the country's democracy, there should be a strong opposition party and that he is working towards this goal.
President Solih said that he said before that he intended to retire after a second term and that right now he will prioritize making MDP a strong and formidable party.
He added that he would decide on his political future after that.
President Solih was defeated in the Presidential Election by PNC Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who is also the Mayor of Male' City.
Muizzu won 15,000 more votes than President Solih in the first round of the election and then went on to widen the gap between the two by winning 19,000 more votes than the President in the secound round held last Saturday.
