Maldives Correctional Services says it has no information on when convicted Vice President Ahmed Adeeb would return to the Maldives following his trip to Singapore for medical purposes.

Adeeb was initially allowed to go to Singapore on the 12th of last month for 10 days and Correctional Services said then that the permit was granted to him to go abroad for medical purposes as he must do diagnostic tests that are not available in the Maldives.

Adeeb, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence in relation to the MMPRC scandal, was given additional days abroad with his return deadline set for today.

Speaking to The Press on the matter, a media official from Maldives Correctional Services said that there were no updates on the matter.

Correctional Services said before that the time given to Adeeb was extended as the documents pertaining to his stay were submitted to the Correctional Services before the initial 10 days were up.

It had said before that it along with the Police would be monitoring Adeeb while he was abroad.

Adeeb was recently admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Emergency Services and his party Maldives Third-way Democrats MTD stated that Adeeb is suffering from a serious and life-threatening medical condition related to neurology.

It further said that this diagnosis was made after his prolonged period of being locked up in solitary confinement from 2015 to 2018 in a cell locked for 24 hours for three years, against all International conversations and Maldivian laws that classify such treatment as inhumane.
