Police say 5 people died in road accidents reported in the 2nd quarter of the year though fewer accidents were recorded in that period compared to the first three months of the year.
They said this in the Crime Statistics report published today for the 2nd quarter of the year.
Police said that 524 road accidents were investigated in the 2nd quarter of the year and that 5 people died in these accidents. Police also noted that 48 injuries were reported during this time.
They said that 498 of the accidents were reported from Male' City while 8 accidents were reported from Addu City, 3 from Fuvahmulah City and Kulhudhufushi respectively, and that 12 other accidents were reported from other Atolls.
Police identified that 344 four-wheelers were involved in accidents in the second quarter of the year while 305 motorbikes were also involved in accidents during this period.
Police recorded 15 fewer accidents in the 2nd three months of the year as it recorded a total of 539 accidents in the first three months of the year though no fatalities were reported.
Meanwhile, driving without a license remains the most recorded traffic violation with 1,287 such cases reported between April and June
Police said that 399 motorists were reported for driving while their licenses were suspended and that 309 were stopped for speeding.
In the last three months, Police stickered 10,751 vehicles including 5588 motorcycles, 3,817 cars, 634 pickups, and 479 vans.
With 10,617 vehicles stickered in the first three months of the year, Police have now stickered a staggering 21,368 vehicles this year.
