Authorities in the Maldives have launched an investigation into the smuggling of narcotics worth MVR 3.6 million.
Maldives Customs Services said that the drugs were seized on the 7th of this month after searching they searched a package that came into the country via postal courier on the same day.
Customs said that the package, which was delivered from the UK, contained suspicious items, and that they examined it and found two packets of suspected drugs, which tested positive for the drug mephedrone.
The street value of the 2.20 grams of the drugs is estimated at MVR 3.6 million.
Customs said the items have been handed over to the police for further investigation. It is unclear whether anyone has been arrested in the case.
Mephedrone is one of the most commonly smuggled drugs in the Maldives.
