The Government of Japan has handed over 8 ambulances it has donated to several medical facilities in the Maldives under government policy to strengthen the emergency services of the country.

At a ceremony held today, Japanese Ambassador Takeuchi Midori, on behalf of the Japanese Government handed over 8 Paramedic Ambulances to the Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

Minister Naseem then handed over the ambulances to the Managers of the designated health facilities.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 8 ambulances were handed over to the designated islands.

It said that among these, 6 Ambulances were allocated to HA. Hoarafushi Health Center, HA. Kelaa Health Center, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, L. Gan Regional Hospital, GN. Fuvahmulah Hospital, Addu Equatorial Hospital, and 2 were allocated to National Ambulances Service in Greater Male Area.

The Ministry further said that the 8 ambulances to outer islands would assist in receiving a quick response when emergency medical assistance is required in times of disasters, emergencies, or accidents.

It added that these 8 units of ambulances consist of 8 sets of 12 medical equipment such as ALS bag, oxygen cylinder, bag valve mask, and spinal board.
