Maldives Corrections Services says it has not given permission to former Vice President Ahmed to go abroad.
Its denial came after the MP for Ungoofaaru Constituency Mohamed Waheed expressed concern stating that it is alarming that the authorities would let one of the masterminds behind the MMPRC scandal leave the country tomorrow.
Waheed said that he heard about reports that say that the government is looking to let the ex-Vice President leave the country before President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih kicks off his re-election campaign as Adeeb might reveal detrimental information.
Speaking about these accusations, a media official at Corrections Yusreen Ahmed said to The Press that as of now such permission has not been granted.
Even a source close to Adeeb clarified that even the former Vice President himself does not know that he is leaving the country tomorrow.
Adeeb is currently serving a 20-year jail sentence after he was found guilty of the 7 charges filed against him in relation to the MMPRC scandal. But currently he is serving the sentence under house arrest.
