A fire at a house in Haa Alifu Filladhoo has left a family of 7 in temporary housing after the blaze destroyed their home.
Speaking to The Press about the fire, President of Filladhoo Council Fathuhullah Hassan said that the fire was reported around 1 am earlier this morning and that 7 people were at the house during that time.
He said that this includes 3 children, two women, and an elderly couple.
Fathuhullah said that the fire started when the members of the household were sleeping and one of the women woke up because it was getting too warm in the room.
He said that according to the woman, by the time she went out of her room, one of the current meter boards was on fire and that the fire had spread to the ceiling and a sofa nearby. He recounted that the woman hastened to wake all the others before the fire spread any further.
Filadhoo Council President said that the house was totally destroyed by the fire and that nothing in the house can be salved. He further said that authorities were working to determine the monetary value of the damage caused by the fire last night.
Fathuhullah informed that the family has now been moved to temporary housing and that the Council was coordinating with the National Disaster Management authority.
