Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has said it will continue its work as before.
This comes after the Civil Court issued an injunction on the Election Commission to halt the proceedings to dissolve MRM.
In a statement, the party said in light of the Civil Court injunction, it would continue its reform movement without hindrance. MRM also said that its branches, committees, and individual members have been instructed to continue party work.
The civil court ordered the EC to suspend the implementation of the decision to dissolve MRM and gave the party 30 days to file its own case. The injunction also said that it would be void if the party fails to file charges within 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Elections Commission said today that it was seeking to revise the Civil Court injunction by submitting the case to the High Court.
But it did not specify when it would turn to the Higher Court for the revision.
MRM founded under the tutelage of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was registered on November 20th, 2019.
As per the Elections Commission website, up till 21st February of this year, the party had 2,981 registered members.
Under the law, a political party must have at least 3,000 members before it is allowed to operate in the country.
