Maldives National Party MNP has accused the government of influencing the Guraidhoo by-election scheduled for the 15th of this month.

Speaking about the Party's concerns regarding the election, MNP President Mohamed Nazim said that the government is using all of its ministries and agencies to exert its influence on the election.

He further said that the government has been using employees from State Owned companies and other resources as well.

Nazim noted that the decision to issue land plots from Kaafu Maafushi and the land reclamation project in Gulhi is highly questionable. He also accused the youth of the constituency has been given free amenities and that the government is working with councils with an MDP majority to influence the election process.

He added that the election would not be fair.

MDP, MNP, and the opposition coalition are competing in the by-election to fill the now-vacant parliamentary seat for Guriadhoo Constituency.

MDP has fielded Ibrahim Shaz while the opposition has given its ticket to the brother of late Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza whose death vacated in the seat back in February.

Ali Arif is competing for the seat for MNP.
