Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi says she has not done anything unlawful while in office since she was appointed to the post back in 2018.
She said this defiant statement while answering questions from the MP for Naifaru Constituency Ahmed Shiyam at the Parliament today.
Shiyam asked if the Minister supported the violence against locals who oppose the deployment of foreign forces on Maldivian soil and if the Minister believes she has to apologize for mocking retired servicemen.
He also asked if the security forces have failed the public after it was late to react in regards to the attack against Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed though they receive intel on the attack.
In response, Minister Mariya said that Article 2 of the Addressing of Questions to Cabinet Ministers outlined the ambit of questioning at the Parliament and that a minister can be questioned on the responsibilities undertaken by the Minister in the Minister's official capacity as the Minister.
The Minister said that MP Shiyam's line of questioning does not fall under the ambit described in the Act.
She said that she had not committed any crime and that she has not done anything that is detrimental to the state and its people.
Minister Mariya further said that she does not believe she has failed as a Minister and that if any Parliamentarian feels like any Minister has failed in performing their duties, they have the power to take action against the Minster as per the constitution and the law.
