Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi says the calls for arson against the Indian High Commission in the Maldives is an act of terror and that the Maldivian government condemns this act.

This comes after a prominent member of the Opposition PPM called for argon against the Indian High Commission via his Twitter account.

Abbas Adil Riza said that the Indian government had ordered the arson attacks in Addu City back in February of 2012 and that these acts have yet to be avenged. He added that the Indian High Commission is a good place to start the attacks.

Several political parties have condemned these remarks and Defense Minister Mariya described them as an act of terror.

Mariya said via Twitter that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's zero tolerance on terror would be enforced. The Defense Minister went on to say that India is the country's closest developmental partner and that attempts to stop the development of the country will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, MDP called on the authorities to investigate the matter and further condemned the opposition's continuous effort to incite violence and hatred towards friendly nations
