A fire incident has been reported at Rehendi School in Hulhumale earlier today.

The incident was reported just as the school's morning session was about to commence with most students on school grounds. Pictures on social media showed lots of smoke coming from the 5th floor of the building.

Maldives National Defence Force MNDF said that the fire had ignited on the electric boards on the school's first and fifth floor.

MNDF said its firefighters from the Hulhumale' Station had gone to the school around 07:20 and extinguished the fire.

They added that no one was hurt in the incident.

A parent from Rehendi School said that the school's morning session for the day was canceled and that all students had been sent home.

This is the 3rd fire incident in the Greater Male' area in a week. While two of the fires did not result in injuries, the fire reported last Wednesday killed 10 foreigners making it one of the worst fire incidents the country has seen in recent times.
