The Judicial Service Commission JSC has ordered Maamgili Court Chief Magistrate Ahmed Nihan to complete a training program after investigating a misconduct complaint filed against the judge.
The JSC also gave him a verbal reprimand over the matter.
In a statement, JSC said that it decided to take action against the Magistrate because of an incident in which a group of police officers had taken a civilian to Maamgili Magistrate Court seeking a court order, and the Judge gave the civilian a chance to talk about the order.
JSC said that this goes against the judges' conduct set by the Commission and that the Chief Magistrate has been ordered to complete a training program assigned by the Commission.
The Commission further said that it decided on the action against Nihan at its meeting held last Wednesday.
Back in 2016, Magistrate Nihan was sentenced to 17 years in jail for issuing an arrest order against former President Abdullah Yameen.
But the the High Court later overturned the conviction after deciding that the charges were false.
