Housing Development Corporation has teamed up with Health Protection Agency to kick off a special program to prevent the spread of dengue fever by cleaning Hulhumale.

HDC said that the cleaning event started at Central Park in Hulhumale and that around 600 people took part in the event.

It said that these include HDC staff, employees from different government-owned companies, and students from many schools.

Under today's activities, participants cleaned areas in both Phase I and Phase II of Hulhumale to eradicate mosquito breeding sites.

He described today's event as the first step to prevent the spread of the disease and create awareness about mosquito-borne infection.

HDC said that it would organize such events in the future in its bid to stop the spread of the illness.

The Corporation eradicated mosquito breeding sites in the Hiya Flat area of Hulhumale Phase II four days ago.

Health Protection Agency HPA has warned the public about the vast spread of dengue fever and cautioned the public to take all necessary actions to prevent the spread.
